The history of the school
Our school
was first established by missionaries belonging to the board of foreign
missions in the USA. It started in two small rooms in the street now
called "Share Al-Rabbat" in Tripoli. At first it was not a regular
school. This is best expressed in the words of one of the school
principals, Miss Margaret Doolittle.
"In
the year 1856,the school started as a day school for girls headed by
Miss Saada Gregori. It was closed after 2 or 3 years. It reopened in 1873
and was directed by a British lady for one year. In 1874,the school did
not have a regular principal but was directed by different
missionaries. In 1875,it became a regular school and its first regular
principal was Miss Hana Ford. In 1876,she was replaced by Miss Hariette
Lagrange who remained as principal until the year 1919."
She
was followed by Miss margaret Doolittle.

In
1928,the school moved to its new premises in Zahrieh Street.Miss
Delagrange describes the opening of the school as follows:-
Twenty-six years ago, the school consisted of two rooms in an old
building owned by the American Counsel, Mr Yanni. Its first students were
from Tripoli city. Their number grew gradually. In 1876 the building was
bought.

In the
fall of 1881,the school received its first boarding students. Most of
them came from the suburbs of Tripoli. The curriculum consisted of some
English and Arabic languages and a little geography, history and
science. This curriculum became gradually well established and
comprehensive."

The
school grew under the auspices of the missionaries till1959 when the
National Evangelical Synod of Lebanon and Syria was blended with the
American mission. since then, the school became totally under the
direction of the National Synod.
In
1976,due to the bad security state in Lebanon ,it was decided to mix the
boys school in qubbeh and the girls school in zahrieh street, under the
name "Tripoli Evangelical School for Girls and Boys ",after performing
the necessary changes in the premises.
Ever
since, this mixed school flourished and became one of the leading schools
in north Lebanon, whose students did well in the government exams and in
the different universities in Lebanon and abroad.
