Dear
Alumni’s,
Many
of you will have realized that the best years of their lives were
those spent at the high school. The carefree, jovial atmosphere the
intimacy with classmate and school mates is not equal to any other
relationship. Many of you who pursued higher education will have
noticed the difference between the atmospheres. You might have met
your classmates at the university but you did not feel the same
intimacy. The reason for that is the difference in interest’s
specialization that characterizes university life, where everyone
pursues his own studies at different colleges with new colleagues.
The
T.E.S. Alumni Association, which comprises all alumni of T.B.S.,
T.G.S. and
T.E.S.
was established to revive the old intimate atmospheres and relations
established among classmates, schoolmates in the old days. This
relationship that was established as a result of spending nearly
eight hours daily with classmates and schoolmates over a period of
twelve years. These are very important years because they are the
years of innocence and development. This is something unparalleled
in any other relationship.
A
proverb says “Birds of feather flock together”. The alumni of any
institution seek to stick to their old friends because they share
the same education, background, ideals and aspirations.
After
leaving high school old classmates become dispersed. Some seek
higher education or work overseas; others become occupied with their
work or with the burdens of life and families. This results in
losing track of each other. That is why it is imperative that alumni
should contact the association to supply their addresses and other
means of communication. This will help the association to contact
all alumni everywhere and keep them updated on the agenda of
association. We are interested to know everything about any alumni
where ever he or she is. Please contact us and send us your address,
E-mail or any other means of communication. Where you are in Tripoli
make it a point to visit the school or the office of the association
at ``Kareem Center`` near Hallab Sweets.
Sincerely,
Elias
Sartan

All your stories are welcome ..

Remembers :
Mr.
Jirji Nakhoul used to sign the top of the first page
for the "Al-Insh'a" test. I was the one who could forge it best
and almost all the class depended on me. However, he used
different color each time, so I had several colored pencils. He
insisted on leaving the large study-room to practice the 'honor
system'. In those five minutes, I felt like honey and 40 bees
buzzing around. Each student had an identical copybook with the
"Al-Insha" was
already written and I signed each one.
PS: The story about
Mr. Andari is very true. In my days we used to write the dicte on
a wooden ruler. Always Zero Fault.
Mr.Musallem, while supervising a study period in 9th grade,
noticed a student whose eyes were too open and was blushing. It
turned out he was looking at Fru Fru magazine, a French nudes
tabloid. He was sent to Mr. Abu-Rustum's office. One hour later I
was called to the office to find my parents there.
Later my Mom questioned me if I had funny feelings while looking
at the pictures. I thougt of telling her that I was trying to read
the French text, so I told her that it was the 'anatomy' which
interested me since I plan to become a doctor in the future!!
That day I went to bed without dinner.

Nadim Kantara Remembers (Class of
67):
"Stories
from my school time"
How we always got A+ in French
It was the best time, hilarious.
Everybody adored the French lesson with Mr.Andari. No body failed.
Always the same story.. Mr. Andari specified a text
to be memorized by us and we were supposed to write it as
dictation. All the students in the classroom had the text written
in advance and ready in the pocket. Mr. Andari started to dictate
and we wrote anything but French. When the dictation was over ,
the papers in front of us disappeared and everybody pushed the one
in the pocket and presented to Mr. Andari . Do want to know how he
never discovered? Mr. Andari was a very elegant man. His suit,
shirt, tie and shoes were
always impeccable. Every week we had a volunteer who was
responsible to step onMr. Andari's shoes. That was enough to let
our beloved teacher disoriented, trying as fast as possible to
clean the shoes. The result was obvious .. We only learnt to say
"bonjour monsignor Andari".
The Biology test also was fun. Mr. Sartan used to choose the most
difficult
questions for us. The same multiple questions were used in TGS
and later in
TBS. Baria Maknas used to pass for us the questions immediately
after they
finish and we used to study well the answers. Mr. Sartan , for a
long time ,
thought that he was a teacher of a group of Geniuses, until the
day that he
managed to hire a spy and thus "the party was over".

Dear Alumni
On his latest visit to Tripoli-Lebanon , Dr. Hanna A. Saadah,
gifted us with his latest book of Poetry.
Dr. Hanna Saadah (son of Dr. May Saadah, our eldest female
graduate) graduated from TBS in 1963. He then studied medicine at
AUB and went to the USA. He is an acclaimed internist in Oklahoma.
He is currently married and is father to three young men. His book
"Four & a Half Billion Years" is his latest publication. It is a
collection of long poems, sonnets, and short poems "Passionately
written, in small increments, slowly, carefully, tediously like a
painting where every brush stroke is deliberate, calculated and
significant".
It is "an artist's message, hewn from life,
charged with emotion and wrought into beautiful words that dance
to our inner sacred music".
